From a comparatively warm Mornington Peninsula vintage, the 2016 Stony Hill Estate Pinot Noir still manages to be gorgeously fragrant. The usual cherries, smoked meats and sous bois are enhanced with a little plummy hint on the nose.. The warmer year has also given the wine a deeper colour than usual and a slightly greater volume of tannins, which are supple and moreish. Late ripening vineyards more strongly reflect different ripening conditions, so for Stony Hill fans, this will be one of the richer and more concentrated versions. It is nonetheless a paragon of perfume, elegance and balance. Matured for three years in the bottle already, the 2016 Pinot is drinking smoothly now but could be cellared until 2026. Great with a charcuterie plate or a wide range of foods.
